The RNC tried to raffle a photo with Trump — but Twitter users weren’t having it

A “lucky” winner will get the chance to be President Trump’s “special guest” at a reception in Pennsylvania.

The Republican National Committee shared a link to the sweepstakes on Trump’s official website Wednesday, but Twitter users weren’t having it.

To enter, people are asked to donate money to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee. People can also use this link, concealed within the fine print, to enter the competition without funding the president’s committee. Entries must be received by Feb. 18 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The winner of the contest, which the RNC values at $3,000, will “receive round-trip transportation and accommodations for two” to attend Trump’s Feb. 21 reception in Pennsylvania. The president will be in town to campaign on behalf of Republican House candidate Rick Saccone, currently in a statistical dead heat with Democrat Conor Lamb in a district won by Trump in 2016.  The winner will also be allowed to pose for a photograph with the president. Neither the White House nor the GOP have released specific details about where the event will be held, but the president is scheduled to speak in Ambridge, Pennsylvania for a campaign-style rally that day.

The contest wasn’t met with enthusiasm on Twitter. Responses to the sweepstakes included, “I’d rather be on the ICE short list,” “I’d rather stick a hot poker in my eye,” to “a root canal would be more fun.” Many users also responded to the RNC’s tweet with criticisms about the NRA and comments about a need to talk about gun violence and gun control in America.
